SHARP ANGLED PEACOCK

ADULT: Wingspan 22 - 27mm. A moth easily confused with the Peacock Moth but here with have a darker grey-brown forewing ground colour and a more obvious subterminal band which is also visible on the underside of the hindwing. The dark  line around the edge of the hindwing is normally broken or dotted. The dark notch near the forewing tip is more concave than that of the peacock. CHRYSALIS: Pupates in a cocoon on the ground. Overwinters as a pupa. LARVAE: Feeding on Alder, Willow and Buckthorn. BEHAVIOUR: Attracted to light. HABITAT: This lovely moth has a preference for woodland areas and sand dunes. FLIGHT PERIOD: On the wing during May and June. STATUS: Mainly found in the southern counties of England and Wales where it can be quite common.  There are occasional records from further north.
